Mazkur maqolada Jahon savdo tashkilotining (JST) asosiy maqsadlari, vazifalari va unga a’zo bo‘lish jarayonlari tahlil qilingan. Tariflar va savdo bo‘yicha bosh kelishuv (GATT) va JST ning tarixi ko‘rib chiqilgan. JSTning global savdoni tartibga solish, erkin va adolatli savdo muhitini yaratish, savdo nizolarini hal etish kabi asosiy funksiyalari yoritilgan. Shuningdek, tashkilotga a’zo bo‘lish uchun davlatlar qanday bosqichlardan o‘tishi, bu jarayonda duch keladigan muammolar va JSTga a’zolikning iqtisodiy hamda huquqiy afzalliklari haqida ma’lumot berilgan. Maqolada JSTning xalqaro savdo tizimidagi roli va uning jahon iqtisodiyotiga ta’siri ham tahlil qilingan.
